Judge’s report

YORKSHIRE AFGHAN HOUND SOCIETY

Championship Show

31.8.2008

Many thanks to the Club for the honor of the invitation and to the exhibitors for a lovely entry (103 males).

Beautiful showground, with Carlton Towers at the background and excellent organization.

Have judged our special breed at almost all European countries, also Australia and N. Zealand, but to be passed to award CCs in England for the first time was a special moment for me, indeed. Even more so, having Derek Arris in my ring as steward and Hazel watching me from outside! Both old friends, my first tutors in the breed and excellent hosts during my stay.

Some general observations on the dogs: on the plus side, general soundness of construction, strong bones and toplines, developed forechests with good length and return of upper arms, good leg lengths and rear angles. On the minus side, a good number of plain and/or heavy heads lacking chiseling, shallow chests and soft muscles. Coats were long and very well presented, as is the "rule" in this country. However, some were rather dull, lacking silkiness and some not straight enough. Presentation and handling generally very good and temperaments excellent.
