Yorkshire Afghan Hound Society _ Open Show Sunday 4 January 2009

My thanks go to the Committee of YAHS for the honour to judge their open show and to the exhibitors, some of whom travelled great distances, giving

me the opportunity to judge their dogs. I was particularly looking for a hound that was square in appearance with balanced angulation between the

fore and rear quarters, level top line, well sprung rib cage, prominent hip bones and movement that was free and true. Sadly, with some hounds,

angulation was a little lacking and hip bones in some were difficult to find as the dogs were carrying more ‘body’ than they ought.

Best in Show Sanderson & Saywood’s Gezancol Done and Dhusted at Nabilah - excellent balanced outline good head and expression, very nice reach of

neck leading to well laid shoulders, level top line, well sprung rib cage and not carrying excess weight. Moved true with high order. He coped very well

with the restrictive indoor conditions.

Reserve Best in Show Collett’s Mhasud Unforgetable - it is a year since I saw this boy, I said at that time "what a prospect", I am still of the same opinion,

though he has more maturing to do and, provided nothing goes wrong, I am sure he will make good. Balanced with a good head an elegant reach of neck.

Excellent ribcage. He moved well.

Best Opposite Sex Westgarth’s Jodak Astra Comical with Tamareesha - very nice outline with balanced angulation fore and aft. Good head, expression,

excellent reach of neck, super topline and moved true . In abundant coat, with ‘some’ saddle, though I would have prefered more definition, however

underneath the coat was a well made bitch.. Well presented but in the final challenge she did not have the saddle or high order movement of the BIS and RBIS.

Best Puppy in Show Metcalfe’s Cubanba Northern Star - very nice outline and beautifully balanced. Good expression, excellent ribcage, moved true. I will

watch this one with interest.

Reserve Puppy in Show Westgarth’s Cubanba Betelguese over Tamareesha - nicely made, good head, reach of neck, balanced outline and a good ribcage.

Moved well - not as ‘altogether’ as the as the Best Puppy.

Best Veteran in Show Vowles Ch. Jalhar Leading Lady with Azmari - at 8 yrs a very well made bitch, balanced throughout with a good outline. Carrying a

little more weight on the day than I like.
