Yorkshire Afghan Hound Society Open Show ,4/11/23 at
Grenoside Community Centre.
I genuinely enjoyed judging this show on what was a misty,
wet, autumn day, this friendly well run show brought back many memories of how
shows used to be? , friendly exhibitors, quality hounds who despite the weather
displayed perfectly dry feet ?, they were a credit to their sporting owners and
the hounds did display the range of characteristics that are typical of the
breed and behaviours which made me smile.
BIS , BPIS was a
B/S male in the shape of Mr &
Mrs Lancashire & C O’ Donnell’s Drishaun Baby’s In Black ,a
youngster of 8 months who had such great presence and attitude , he walked into
his pose and needed no adjustment presenting a completely balanced outline with
an air of dignity and masculinity beyond his age, his head was of good length
but had strength and the way he carries his head and looks at you with that arrogant
and regal bearing was typical , head set
on his long slightly arched neck leading into well laid shoulders and upper arm
showing off his prosternum and setting his forelegs well under his deep chest ,
he has a level topline with good fall
away to his well set tail showing ring,
his loin is neat , strong and moderate, pin bones visible and he has sweeping
well bent stifles , he shows width
behind that makes him stand on his construction so well for his age, but it was
on the move when all of the above came together and gave me goosebumps as he
definitely showed a style of high order for sure and reminded me of an Arab
stallion in his style .RBIS and Res BD was
Harward’s 13 mths domino male Altside Too Hot To Handle who was full of
himself but pulled it together to demonstrate his construction and soundness,
every time I looked at him he struck me as very well balanced and of moderate
length, nothing overdone from his masculine exotic head to his well carried
tail showing ring, his topline is straight ,strong loin and sweeping quarters
showing width giving clear footfall and open side gait , not quite the reach
and drive of BIS but an exciting prospect when he wants to play?. B. Opp Sex
and BB was his litter sister , Scott’s Altside Hot Shot at Arushkhan a 13 mths
self-masked cream bitch who presented a very pleasing picture for type ,
balance and feminine outlook ,she has
head of good length but has lots of detail and an aloof expression from her
well-shaped triangular eyes with that slight slant that gives that Cleopatra
look ,she was well angulated at both ends , level topline and well set and
carried tail, her side gait was lovely and open with super head carriage
demonstrating dignity and arrogance, her quarters were well let down and she
demonstrated reach and drive in abundance , she just needs time to finish and
will challenge.
